See All ReviewsWe were looking for a good mom and pop type breakfast place while visiting family in town. Their customer service was great. Food was served very fast as well! The food itself tasted awesome!
As a self-proclaimed Gastronomist with an affinity for breakfast eats, I am always on the hunt for a magnificent morning meal that is both reliable, and contains few undercurrents of regret. I have eaten at this humble cafe on 3 separate—but barely spaced apart—visits and each time I go, it only becomes better. If you’re like me, that apparently hyperbolic statement just ignited a full furnace of cynicism within you, and you’ve almost decided I’m not to be trusted. Wait. Just wait. I have no bias beyond my opinion, and I am not speaking hyperbolically. Lemme ask: Have you ever wanted to pay an amount of money for a plate of food that once eaten, doesn’t send you spiraling in grocery calculus as you consider its creation, or make you obligated to say through a painted-on smile, “Well it beats cleaning up, so it’s worth it, bahaha...” Have you ever wanted to feel waited upon rather than treated as an inconvenience? Do you have a slightly paranoid, but mostly curious desire to watch not only your food, but the food of other patrons, being prepared by a friendly, deft chef with more than a passing resemblance to Norman Reedus? Have you ever been close to tears after a meal from a restaurant that had more to do with satisfaction than regret? I have. But even in my fervent—and often far-reaching—pursuit of quality breakfast experiences, finding spots that excel, and do so consistently is rare. Too often “the best breakfasts” are nothing more than trite, lifeless assemblies of bland pancakes, greasy questionable meats and soggy spuds, thrust onto a pedestal by community support rather than actual merit. This is most certainly not one of those places—all their merit is 100% organic, and their food, delicious. Kevin’s Cafe is priceless. It is, however, cash only.
This is an adorable little breakfast spot with great portions and reasonable prices. I often judge a breakfast restaurants by how their grits are cooked and this spot did not disappoint. The grits were buttery creamy cheesy and delicious. I had a salmon patty and it was cooked to perfection. It wasn’t fishy and it wasn’t greasy. It was just right. The coffee was great. The staff was welcoming and warm and I enjoyed a quick breakfast at an affordable price. I definitely will be going back.
